Repairs to the Swimming Lake Sprinkler Pump

posted Jul 10, 2019, 6:40 AM by Michael Sinkovich

Thanks to the generosity of a few members, the pump for the sprinklers in the fishing is being repaired.
When a few of our members got the message yesterday the contacted us and offered to come give us a hand to find a solution to the problem without draining the water.
Last night they came up with a solution and will be out there today working to implement a fix.
Hopefully by Friday the sprinklers will be working again.

Thanks you.

Our Pump for the swimming lake sprinklers is down

posted Jul 9, 2019, 7:43 AM by Michael Sinkovich   [ updated Jul 9, 2019, 7:44 AM ]

One of the underground lines that supply the pump for the swimming lake sprinkler has cracked.
This is allowing mud and sand to get into the pump and damage it.

There is a good possibility that this cannot be fixed until we drain the lake in September.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Did you know

posted Jun 14, 2019, 10:42 AM by Michael Sinkovich   [ updated Jun 14, 2019, 10:46 AM ]

Good afternoon everyone. We hope everyone is getting their plans ready for the 4th of July celebration at the country club. Despite the poor weather we have had lately we have been busy trying to make up for lost time by getting the lakes swims and grounds ready for the 4th.

We wanted to give all the members some information about our lakes, swims and grounds maintenance so we decided to do a "Did you know"

Did you know that Todd Shirley is our onsite caretaker. Todd his wife Mindi and their two young daughters live on the grounds all year long in the yellow cottage.
Todd is solely responsible for a long list of things at the club. Here are the major things he does on a week to week basis.

1. There are 25 large barrel garbage can's located across the 40 acres of the country club property that Todd has to empty, replace and place in a dumpster daily.
2. There are 8 boats that Todd has to keep cleaned and in operating condition for the membership to use.
3. There are 15 grills across the 40 acres that Todd has to keep clean and it good working condition.
4. There are 40 large picnic tables that Todd maintains by keep them painted, replacing rotted wood & moving them around when needed for picnics and parties.
5. There are 4 bathrooms that contain two showers, 6 toilets and 2 urinals that need maintained daily.
6. Todd takes care of the basic Tractor, Gator and Zero turn mower maintenance.
7. Todd maintains the swimming lake. Including keep the painting done, chemicals in the lake. Cleaning grass and debris out of the lake and ensuring the 2 pumps and 2 aerators we have in the lake are operating.
8. Todd maintains the fishing lake. Doing his best to keep it clean from debris. Treating it with chemicals when needed and trying to keep the weeds on the shoreline down so people can fish.
9. Todd maintains 4 building that we rent out yearly, these buildings average 100 rentals per season.
10. Todd maintains three bridges that are on the 40 acres. He makes sure the wooden planks and steel frames are properly maintained and in good condition. Replacing the planks when needed.
11. Todd maintains the 40 acres that the country club sits on by mowing, raking and weed trimming.
12. Todd maintains 8 buildings that are on the club property by fixing plumbing when it breaks, doing electrical work, painting and general repairs.

Our caretaker does this year around all by himself. There are times in the summer when, through some county programs, he gets a few kids part time to come in and give him a hand.

We also have 7 unpaid board members who jump in and help out from time to time to give Todd a hand it getting this long list of tasks accomplished. These unpaid board members also hire, supervise, and process payroll for 30 club employees (lifeguard, snack shack and welcome center employees) in addition we handle reservation and payments for the rental facilities. We also process payments for dues and daily reconciliation of the money we make from the snack shack and guest fees. In addition we mail out your statements and stickers. We manage the Facebook, Instagram, email, SnapChat and respond to any voicemails, phone calls or text messages.

This past year has been particularly harsh, we have had 9 trees come down in storms, massive amounts of rainfall, our main bridge began to fall apart and needed massive repairs. As a result we have fallen behind on some of the other duties at the club.
Todd now has a small crew of workers from one of the county programs and they are working very hard to catch up. We are asking for patience and some understanding while we try to catch up and catch our breath so that we can keep your dues low as we always have and keep the club nice as we always have and we have time to do that in addition to enjoying the time we have left with our own families enjoying the Salem Country Club.

We recognize the issues with the fishing lake and the Algae that is growing in it. We are and have been taking issues to address it. We ARE NOT ignoring it and hoping it goes away. Our Lake expert that we partnered with last year is coming out to the Lake this week to give us some additional suggestion for treatment. We will keep you updated.

We hope to see you all on the 4th and a lot this summer. As always feel free to reach out to any of us on the board by sending an email to bod@salemcountryclub.net

Bridge Repair, Storm Damage and Other News

posted May 13, 2019, 7:02 AM by Michael Sinkovich   [ updated May 13, 2019, 7:50 AM ]

Greetings everyone, it has been a busy month for our Board, our Caretaker and a few members who have pitched in to help us with some unforeseen circumstances.

In addition to trying to get the club ready for opening day we have had a few things happen that we wanted to inform the membership about. You will find pictures of each below.

1.  Bridge Repair
During our routine maintenance and inspection of the club we found that this past winter had been particularly harsh on the small bridge that everyone crosses as they come into the club. We took pictures and attached them to this email. Immediately we contacted several area companies to come and examine the bridge damage to determine if the bridge was safe to cross and provide a quote for repairs. Each company who came out indicated the bridge was safe to cross but would need to be repaired before the end of the season so that more damage did not occur.
After reviewing 4 quotes we received we choose to go with TFC (Travis Foster Construction). Their approach to the repairs seemed more logically to us, it was the least disruptive to the existing structure, and provided what we felt was the best long term solution to the problem.
TFC is currently making the repairs to the bridge, they should finish up this week, we will send photos of the repairs once we have it all done and the bridge is still open during the repairs. However at times we will need to close the bridge to traffic off and on for the next 5-7 days.

2. Storm Damage

The recent storms that have come through the area really did some damage to the older trees that we have at the club.  Six trees were uprooted or knocked down. All in areas that are used regularly. Most of the down trees have been cleared using a the combined efforts of our grounds crew, our board and member volunteers who came out and helped. We have attached photos below.

3.  New Sand

Now for some good news. New sand was delivered and spread in certain areas of the beach. We have attached photos and hope that  you all come out on opening weekend and enjoy sitting on the beach.

4. Stocking the Fishing Lake

In efforts to keep the Lake healthy we stocked the lake with some new fish from Fenders Fish Farm. We are continuing our goal to clean up the fishing lake without chemicals. We added 30 Amurs, 150 Shellcrackers (Hybrid blue gill) and 1000 Fathead minnows to feed the existing stock. We will be putting in at least 4 more aerators and within the week will be adding good bacteria to continue the push to get rid of the black stinky muck. Thanks for the patients we know the results will be worth it. For you fisherman we will be stocking sporting fish after the 4th of July.

5. The 5k race is this weekend

Please stop out and support a good cause.

6. Opening days is 12 days away

We have 19 lifeguards this summer and we are excited with the great group of kids who have decided to work at the club as guards this summer. If you have any suggestions for them please send them to lifeguards@salemcountryclub.net. The lifeguard work schedule is posted on our website. The snack shack is stocked and ready to serve you some goodies as your relax on the beach. This year we have added a taco salad to the menu. Please stop by and see us.
